AI & I

“Are you worried AI is going to take over your job?” I’ve been asked this question quite a few times in the last couple of months. And it’s a valid question. In the past decades, we have seen many jobs being eliminated by AI, computers, and technology. Yet, I’m not afraid of AI taking my job. And here is why.

What is AI?

I will never be able, or attempt, to explain Artificial Intelligence fully. But you need to have a little understanding of how AI works, to understand why I’m not worried about losing my job to machines.

Artificial Intelligence is the processes of human intelligence simulated by machines. It requires a large amount of data to be able to recognize and analyze patterns to create a new output. For example, a chatbot on a website is fed many examples of chats, so it can learn to produce lifelike conversations.

How does AI work in combination with marketing?

AI is not a new concept in the world of marketing. A component of AI is machine learning, something that has been used by platforms such as Google, Facebook, and LinkedIn to better their algorithms and ads.

The foundation of AI copywriting

In the realm of copywriting, AI is a bit more of a newcomer. So how does it work there? Well, where the chatbot was fed examples of conversations, the AI copywriting tools (like openai.com or Jasper.ai) gather the information that is currently available online. It analyzes the information and uses it to create a new output. New copy.
So, the foundation of the copy that the AI tools produce, is copy that already exists.

The weakness of AI Copywriting

Now, what the tools produce is extraordinary. I am impressed with the copy that is being produced. However, there are three major weaknesses that make me feel secure in my job.

First, when the basis of the AI copy is the copy that already exists, it needs people like you and me to continue to publish content. So, I’ll continue to create content.

Secondly, there is no fact-checking. The internet is full of opinions, and, in some cases, scary conclusions based on one-sided information. Information that the AI tools will access to create your copy and might not recognize as unjust or wrong. So be careful and don’t trust the machines blindly.

But the most important advantage that a copywriter has compared to AI copywriting tools is the Personal Touch. A good copywriter will use creativity to elevate your copy and content with your personal tone of voice and point of view. They also understand how it fits in with the rest of your story and brand. This is something AI can’t fully supply. Yet…

Should we ignore AI Copywriting then?

NO! Do not ignore these amazing, smart, and incredibly useful tools! The biggest advantage that AI has compared to people, is speed. It is absolutely incredible that you can have an entire blog post in minutes, if not seconds. It also can come up with interesting insights and angles that you hadn’t thought about yet.

AI & I: Two copywriters, One team

The answer to the question if I’m afraid of losing my job because of AI, is no. But that is because I’ve embraced most technology that makes my job easier and makes me a better copywriter and marketer. I bookmarked my favourite AI Copywriting tool and work together to make more and better content.

How do you feel about AI (Copywriting) tools?

P.S. Just a little note from an AI Copywriting Tool about the impact of AI Copywriting tools on traditional copywriters (via Openai.com):

AI copywriting tools, also known as natural language generation (NLG) software, have the potential to revolutionize the field of copywriting by automating the production of written content. These tools use artificial intelligence algorithms to analyze data and generate written content in a style that is designed to be similar to human-written copy.

There are a few potential impacts of AI copywriting tools on traditional copywriters:

Increased efficiency: AI copywriting tools can generate large amounts of content quickly, potentially allowing copywriters to produce more content in less time.

Enhanced accuracy: AI copywriting tools can analyze data and generate content that is free of errors, which could help to improve the quality and accuracy of written content.

Changes to the job market: Some people worry that the increasing use of AI copywriting tools could lead to job losses for traditional copywriters. However, it is also possible that these tools could create new job opportunities, such as the development and maintenance of AI copywriting software.

Overall, the impact of AI copywriting tools on traditional copywriters is likely to be complex and varied. It is important for copywriters to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in AI and natural language processing, and to be proactive in adapting to new technologies as they emerge.

Traditional copywriters have a number of advantages compared to AI copywriting tools, including:

Creativity: Traditional copywriters are able to bring their own unique perspective, voice, and ideas to the content they create. AI copywriting tools, on the other hand, are limited to generating content based on the data and algorithms they have been trained on.

Emotional intelligence: Traditional copywriters have the ability to understand and appeal to the emotions of their audience, which can be difficult for AI copywriting tools to replicate.

Adaptability: Traditional copywriters are able to adapt to different writing styles and formats, and can easily adjust their writing based on the needs of a particular project or client. AI copywriting tools may struggle to produce content that is tailored to specific situations.

Collaboration: Traditional copywriters are able to work closely with clients and team members to develop and refine content ideas. AI copywriting tools are limited in their ability to participate in this type of collaborative process.

Overall, traditional copywriters have the unique ability to bring creativity, emotional intelligence, adaptability, and collaboration to their work, which can be difficult for AI copywriting tools to match.
